Project: Imperial College
Location: London
Product used: HO904
Imperial College London is a global top ten university with a world-class reputation for excellence in teaching and research in science, engineering, business and medicine.
Located in the heart of London, Imperial is a multidisciplinary space for education, research, translation and commercialisation, harnessing science and innovation to tackle global challenges.
When Imperial renovated their beautiful, 1,700 sqm outdoor space, Trekker’s Vulcan Wood Grain HO904 product was chosen for the project. The aim was to find a product which not only worked well with the aesthetics of the surrounding buildings but was also practical, easy to maintain, durable and safe.
The outdoor space at Imperial is south facing and therefore exposed to the sun most of the day, so the product needed to be able to stand the test of the elements. Slip resistance was another significant factor for the decking choice.
The slip resistance of the product is 60 PTV (Dry) and 46 PTV (Wet). The joists needed adding too as this was the problem with the original install, where they were too far apart making the decking look ‘wavey’. With the new installation more joists were put in therefore solving the issue. The product was also used for building a ramp suitable for wheelchairs.
